INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Mount Union sophomore Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) has been named the United States Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week for NCAA Division III men's basketball.

Parker averaged 24 points, 10.3 rebounds per game and shot 68.6-percent from the floor in leading the No. 11 ranked Purple Raiders to three wins last week.

He started the week with a 26-point, eight-rebound performance off the bench in an 81-62 win over La Roche (Pa.) on Monday.

On Wednesday, he came off the bench again and hit 10-of-14 from the floor as he finished with a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds in an 89-80 win against John Carroll.

He finished off the week with another double-double getting 18 points and 12 rebounds, this time as a starter, in a 93-71 win over Ohio Northern.

Parker, also the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week, has played in all 18 games so far and leads the Raiders in scoring at 18.8 points per game and is second in rebounding with 7.8 per game.

Mount Union, 16-2 overall and 9-2 in the OAC, takes a six-game win streak to Baldwin Wallace Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tipoff in Berea.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. The program has resumed after a one-season hiatus and this is the seventh season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
