Mount Union will host former Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe John Carroll on Saturday in the 2025 NCAA Playoffs Third Round. Both teams won their respective second round games convincingly at home following their first round byes. The Purple Raiders won 49-7 over Muhlenberg for their 33rd straight NCAA Playoffs opening game victory, while the Blue Streaks won, 35-6, over Randolph-Macon. The Purple Raiders are first in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings, while the Blue Streaks are 10th. Mount Union won its league-record 35th OAC Championship to secure the conference's NCAA automatic qualifying bid for this year's NCAA Playoffs, while first-year North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) member John Carroll won the NCAC for the automatic bid. Saturday's showdown will be the fifth time the programs have faced each other in the NCAA Playoffs, the most recent being last season when the Purple Raiders won in dominant fashion, 42-7, in the NCAA Second Round. Mount Union is 4-0 over John Carroll in the postseason. The other three postseason meetings: the 2014 NCAA Quarterfinals (W, 36-28), the 2002 Semifinals (W, 57-19), and the 1997 Quarterfinals (W, 59-7). The Purple Raiders have outscored the Blue Streaks, 194-61, in their NCAA Playoffs matchups. In total, the Raiders have won nine straight games over the Blue Steaks. It'll be the 46th meeting between the schools, with the Purple Raiders owning a 40-3-2 (.911) record in the series. Saturday's third round game will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
