Mount Union started its 128th season with a home-opening 37-29 win over #17 Wheaton last Saturday. The Purple Raiders led 37-7 with 7:35 remaining in the third quarter. It'll be back-to-back weeks against nationally ranked opponents as Mount Union travels to face #15 Grove City. It's been 45 years since the last matchup between the two teams, when the Raiders won 30-14 on September 29, 1979 in Grove City, PA, under the leadership of Mount Union M Club Hall of Fame Head Coach Ken Wable. In that game, current Mount Union Athletic Director Mike Parnell had an interception as a starting defensive back for the Raiders. Saturday's meeting will be the ninth overall, with the Purple Raiders holding a 7-0-1 record in the series. All of the meetings were in the 1970s, with the first being September 26, 1970 (Mount won 21-18). Grove City is also coming off a win against a nationally ranked foe, as the Wolverines forced seven turnovers to beat No. 10 Cortland on the road in week 1. In last year's NCAA Playoffs, Grove City lost to Johns Hopkins, 17-14, in the First Round, the same team Mount Union beat 45-37 in the NCAA Semifinals.
