Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Wilmington 25-2 Saturday afternoon in the 2013 season finale.
The Purple Raiders (7-7) were led by freshman duo
Hogan Harris (Medina/Medina) and
Toren Moore (Columbus/Hilliard-Darby) who both tallied six points in the victory. Harris led the way in goals with six goals as Moore had three goals and three assists.
Ten different Raiders scored in the victory with five players scoring hat-tricks. Freshman trio
Andrew Dorman (Medina/Medina),
Carl Sopczyk (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) and
Mike Richardson (Parma/Holy Name) were three of the five with Harris and Moore rounding out the hat-tricks.
The Quakers (4-11) were led by Alexander Gossard and Kirby Dearth who both scored a goal in the loss tallying a point each. Austin Johnston and Jalen Jackson both tallied a point as they dished out one assist apiece on the two goals scored for Wilmington.
Mount Union would score first in the first quarter as freshman
Michael Taylor (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) scored with 12:35 remaining in the quarter. The Raiders would outscore Wilmington 10-1 in the first quarter led by Harris who had four goals in the quarter.
The Raiders would blank the Quakers in the second quarter as they would outscore them four goals to none going into halftime with the 14-1 lead.
Mount Union would open the third quarter the same way they ended the second with scoring five goals to Wilmington's zero. The Raiders would go into the final quarter with the 19-1 lead.
Dorman would find the back of the net off of a pass from Sopczyk first in the fourth quarter as the Raiders would outscore the Quakers six to one in the final quarter of play. Mount Union would go on for the 25-2 victory in the 2013 season finale.
