Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's lacrosse team scored an 8-6 Ohio Athletic Conference win Wednesday at John Carroll at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights.
The Purple Raiders are 10-3 overall and stay in first place in the OAC at 2-0 while John Carroll falls to 9-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
A balanced attack led the Raiders on offense as Hogan Harris (Medina/Medina), Toren Moore (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) and Josh Stephens (North Canton/Green) each scored two goals. Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) also had three points with a goal and two assists.
Defensively, Matt Milano (North Canton/Hoover) had four ground balls, Moore had three while Collin Peters (Portland, Ore./Sunset) had 10 saves in goal to get the win.
Harris scored the only goal of the first quarter to give Mount Union a 1-0 lead.
John Carroll scored a pair of man-up goals to take a 2-1 lead before the Raiders answered with two more goals -- a man-up goal from Stephens and a goal from Michael Taylor (Broadview Hts./Brecksville) as Mount Union took 3-2 lead at the break.
Mount Union extended the lead to 5-2 when Moore and Daley scored in a span of 36 seconds in opening minutes of the third quarter. The Blue Streaks got a goal to close to 5-3 but Stephens scored with just eight seconds left in the frame to make the Mount Union lead 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter.
John Carroll got a goal with 10 minutes left to get back to within two goals at 6-4 but Harris and Moore came back with goals to push the lead out to 8-4. John Carroll scored two straight goals but Mount Union held on for the 8-6 win.
Mount Union returns home to host Wilmington Friday at 2 pm at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
