Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa.—Mount Union's men's lacrosse team rallied in the second half to get a 12-7 win at Thiel (Pa.) in the 2016 season opener in Greenville, Pa.
Chris Daley (Wilmington,Del./Dupont) had a game-high five goals with an assist, Hogan Harris (Medina/Medina) had three goals while Andrew Rosati (Streetsboro/Walsh Jesuit) had six ground balls and was 13-of-15 on faceoffs to lead the Purple Raiders.
Collin Peters (Portland, Ore./Sunset) had seven saves in goal for Mount Union.
Timothy O'Shea had three goals and three assists to lead Thiel (0-1).
Thiel went up 2-0 to start the game and led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Daley tied the game with a goal in first minute of the second quarter and gave the Raiders their first lead with a goal at the 9:05 mark off an assist from Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md/Quince Orchard). Thiel retook the lead the with a pair of goals before Mount Union tied the score at 4-4 as Greenberg fed Josh Stephens (North Canton/Green) for a score with 3:41 left in the quarter. Thiel scored two more times to lead 6-4 at the break.
Harris got on the board with a goal off an assist from Nick West (Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) to cut the deficit to 6-5 early in the third quarter but Thiel got that goal back a little over a minute later to lead 7-5. Mount Union then scored six unanwsered goals -- two from Daley, two from Harris and one each from Anthony Cacciavillano (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Kyle Adams (St. Catharines, Ontario/St. Francis Catholic) -- to lead 11-7 after three quarters.
Daley tacked on a final goal in the fourth quarter for the 12-7 final.
Mount Union next plays at Frostburg State (Md.) February 28 at 1 p.m. in Frostburg, Md.
