Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Senior Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) scored three goals in Mount Union's 7-6 win over St. Vincent (Pa.) Saturday at Mount Union Stadium in the team's home opener.
The Purple Raiders advance to 1-1 on the season after defeating St. Vincent, who falls to 0-1.
Daley's three goals led the Raiders, while junior attackman Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) recorded two goals and an assist, one of which came in a man-up situation.
St. Vincent was led by sophomore attacker Jeremy Kennedy, who tallied three goals for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats got on the board at the 9:50 mark of the first quarter after Ben Price scored an unassisted goal. Daley responded with a goal with just over seven minutes left in the quarter to tie the game at one. Sophomore Declan McCartin (Centreville, Md./Queen Annes County) notched a goal to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.
Daley recorded two goals for Mount Union in the second quarter to put the Raiders ahead 4-1 at the break.
Greenberg recorded back-to-back goals for the Raiders in the third quarter, but St. Vincent outscored the Raiders 4-3 to cut the lead to two, 7-5.
The Raiders held off the Bearcats for over 12 minutes in the final quarter before St. Vincent's Kennedy found the back of Mount Union's net with 2:14 in regulation. Mount Union held off the Bearcats for the rest of the game to seal a 7-6 victory and its first win of the season.
Mount Union will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. for its next game against non-conference opponent La Roche on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at 4 p.m.
