Men's Lacrosse: Mount Union Suffers Road Loss at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-9 loss to Oberlin College on the road Saturday afternoon at the Knowlton Complex in Oberlin.  

Mount Union (2-2) was led by junior Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) who scored three goals. Sophomore goalie Jake Krone (Stow/Hudson) made eight saves on 19 shots.

Oberlin's (2-3) Reese Koburov led the Yeomen with four goals. 

The Purple Raiders scored three goals to Oberlin's two in the opening quarter, beginning with senior Jack Moran's (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) goal 59 seconds into the game. Oberlin evened the score at one with eight minutes remaining, but Greenberg scored during a man-up situation to put the Raiders up 2-1 with six minutes left. Oberlin tied the game at two less than a minute later, but a goal scored by senior Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) gave Mount Union a 3-2 edge over Oberlin as the teams headed into the second quarter.

Senior Derek Thomas (Erie, Pa./McDowell) notched a goal just 50 seconds into the second quarter. Oberlin's Koburov cut Mount Union's lead to one, 4-3, at the 12:23 mark, but three quick goals by by freshman Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson/Hudson), Daley and Thomas put the Raiders ahead of Oberlin 7-3 with less than two minutes to go. Oberlin scored two goals in the final minutes to cut Mount Union's lead to two, 7-5, at the break. 

Oberlin scored a goal just under three minutes into the third period to cut Mount Union's lead to one, 7-6. Greenberg recorded his second goal of the game in another man-up opportunity at the 10:19 mark to give the Raiders an 8-6 lead, but Oberlin's Koburov recorded two goals to tie the game at eight. 

Greenberg found the back of Oberlin's goal 1:37 into the final quarter to record his third goal of the game and give Mount Union a 9-8 lead. The Yeomen scored three unanswered goals to take an 11-9 lead over Mount Union, resulting in a loss for the Raiders.

Mount Union hosts Westminster (Pa.) on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
