Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Rally But Fall in Overtime to Grove City

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team finished the non-conference portion of its season with a 9-8 overtime loss to Grove City (Pa.) Wednesday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders, who rallied from two goal deficits three different times during the game,  fall to 3-4 on the season with each of last three losses by a goal – two in overtime.

Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake), Seamus McCartin (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne's County) and Grant Elffers (Hudson) each had two goals for Mount Union.

Grove City (3-2) got four goals from Henry Brannan including the game-winner with 1:38 left in overtime.

Grove City's two first quarter goals came in the early and late in the quarter as Brannan scored 1:29 into the game while Aidan Morse scored with 17 seconds left in the period.

The Purple Raiders got the board at the 11:02 mark of the second quarter on a man-up goal from Elffers but 41 seconds later Brannan got his second of the game to give Grove City a 3-1 lead.

McCartin tied the game with a pair of goals in a span of 55 seconds but Grove City nabbed another late goal as David Calhoun hit a man-up score with 14 seconds left and the Wolverines led 4-3 at the half.

Brannan got his third of the game 37 seconds into the third quarter to push the score to 5-3 but the Raiders rallied again as Kungle and Elffers scored to tie the game at 5-5 with 11:34 to play in the quarter.

Grove City retook the lead on a man-down goal from Nate Sprunk 50 seconds into the fourth quarter. Kungle's second goal of the game tied the game again at 6-6 with 13:04 to play.

Grove City scored two straight goals to go up 8-6 on scores from Sam Passalinqua and Calhoun.

Once again, Mount Union rallied from two goals down as Brent Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) got the Raiders within a goal with a score with eight minutes to play and a runner from Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson) tied it with 3:21 left in regulation.
