Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Stung Late By BW

ALLIANCE – Mount Union men's lacrosse team saw Baldwin Wallace score three goals late in a 10-7 loss in the season opener Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

As part of the conference only schedule in 2021, this game was among four of the games that will not count in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings.

The Purple Raiders (0-1) got three goals and two assists from Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillan), two goals from Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) and two from Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly, W.Va.).

Gunner MacMillan scored five goals to lead Baldwin Wallace (1-0).

Mount Union scored first on an Ciotti goal with an assist from Gebhart with 8:55 left in the first quarter. BW tied the game 35 seconds later on a goal from MacMillan. Mount Union then went up 3-1 on a pair of goals from Gebhart and Kungle, before BW then tied the game with two goals in the final three minutes of the quarter.

BW took its first lead of the game on a man-up goal and third of the game from MacMillan with 6:12 left to go in the second quarter. The Jackets pushed the lead to 5-3 with a score from Keaton Trout with 1:19 remaining but Mount Union game right back with Kungle's second score of the day and the Raiders trailed 5-4 at the break.

Another man up goal from MacMillan in the opening minute of the third quarter pushed the BW lead to 6-4. Gebhart got his second goal to bring Mount Union back within a goal, 6-5, with 13:23 left in the quarter. BW answered that goal as Zakary Kroeger got his second of the game to give the Jackets a 7-5 lead after three quarters.

The Raiders again closed to within a goal, 7-6, as Ciotti scored off an assist from Gebhart with 11:32 remaining. Mount Union tied the game on Gebhart's third goal of the game but 11 seconds later Jake Nanosky scored a goal for BW to allow them to retake the lead 8-7 at the 8:39 mark. The Jackets got the lead back out to two goals 9-7 just over a minute later on a goal from Kroeger. BW took its largest lead of the game, 10-7 on MacMilan's fifth goal of the day with just over two minutes remaining.

Mount Union stays home to host Muskingum next Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
