Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Heidelberg on Senior Day 17-2 Wednesday night clinching a spot in the OAC Tournament next week.
The Purple Raiders honored five seniors Mike Moretti (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst), Matt Bisono (Deer Park, N.Y.), Jacob Dodd (Ridgley, Md. / North Caroline), Patrick Lyons and also Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) and Chris Motter (Hudson) who will be back next year for Mount Union.
The Purple Raiders got four goals from Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly).
Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) and Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) scored three goals and Ben Jones (Neenah, Wis. / Neenah) scored two goals.
Bisono, Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western), Isaac Kinaitis (Uniontown / Green), Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South) and Clay Barkan (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) each scored one goal as they improved their overall record at 7-5 and 5-3 in the OAC.
Heidelberg got two goals from David Weaver and fell to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the OAC.
Mount Union got off to a hot start with the first five goals. Gebhart started the scoring and then Kinaitis with a goal. Then three more goals in a 1:30 span with one from Kungle and two from Ciotti.
Heidelberg ended the first quarter on a 2-1 run with Gebhart scoring in the middle of the Heidelberg goals.
The Raiders shut out Heidelberg in the second half and scored two goals one from Ciotti and one from Addonizio.
The third quarter saw seven different Raiders score a goal and hold Heidelberg to one goal in the quarter. Scoring for Mount Union was Bisono, Gebhart, Ciotti, Jones, Barkan, Zusman and Kungle.
The final quarter saw one goal each from Kungle and Jones for the Raiders after a Heidelberg goal.
The Raiders got on offense thanks to senior face-off specialist Chris Motter (Hudson), who won 12-of-19 faceoffs while sophomore Kyle Reihner (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) had six saves in the first half while in goal.
Mount Union heads on the road to take on Ohio Northern in the OAC regular season finale matchup next Saturday, May 1st at 1 p.m. in Ada.
