Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Mount Union women's volleyball team picked up its 10^th straight victory defeating Eastern University in four sets, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 25-21 Friday night at the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University.
 
The Purple Raiders (12-2) were led offensively by sophomore Zoe Sweigart (Canal Winchester) with 16 kills and senior Sadie Thomas (Cambridge Springs, Pa. / Maplewood) with 14 kills.
 
Sophomore DeLani Durst (Clyde) and junior Anna Mihacevich (Hinkley / Padua Franciscan) both finished with 25 assists in the match. Senior Averi Haley (Orrville) had a game-high 21 digs with freshman Remington Dieter (West Salem / Black River) picking up 16 and Thomas finishing with 13.
 
Eastern (3-6) was led by Piper Xeller with 22 kills, Sarah Furey with 30 assists and Grace Cooper with 21 digs.
 
In the first set Mount Union fell behind very quickly down 6-0 and 8-1. The Raiders slowly closed the game getting within three at 12-9 on a 7-4 run as Thomas led the way with two kills. Mount Union tied the match at 17 on an attack error from Eastern but Eastern pushed the lead out to 23-20 as Mount Union could not recover from that dropping the set.
 
In the second set neither team could get any momentum as the score was tied at points one, three, seven, nine and 10. Eastern grabbed some momentum taking a 16-12 lead. Mount Union however pulled even and then took a three point lead at 19-16 on a 7-0 run which was fueled by three kills from senior Riley Meister (Madison). Mount Union led 23-20 and 24-21 but Eastern battled back to 24 all before an attack error from Eastern and then a kill from Sweigart finished the set.
 
In the third set Mount Union jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. Eastern once again battled the Raiders and grabbed a 12-10 lead but Mount Union once again went on a 4-0 run which saw two service aces and a kill from junior Cami Welty (Willowick / Eastlake North). Mount Union got on another run this time being 9-4 to extend the lead out to 23-17 where they would finish the set off with a senior Molly McKee (North Ridgeville) kill and then a service error from Eastern.
 
The final set of the night saw five ties in the first 12 points from the teams. A 5-0 run opened the game up as Thomas picked up three kills in the run as Mount Union led 11-6. Mount Union kept the lead between five and six the rest of the way as Mount Union finished with 15 kills in the set on .317 hitting percent.
 
Mount Union will take on the hosts Gallaudet at 10 am tomorrow and Arcadia at 2 pm to finish up the weekend.
