Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Mount Union's volleyball team lost in straight sets to 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 Randolph-Macon (Va.) Friday, September 23 at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The loss snapped a five match win streak for the Purple Raiders, who are now 10-3 on the season while Randolph-Macon moves to 8-3 with the win.
Mount Union was led by junior Mallory Sliman (Amherst/Amherst Steele) with five kills while senior Caitlyn Snyek (Independence/Independence) added four kills and three blocks. Junior Riley Schenk (Amherst/Amherst Steele) led in assists with 18 and sophomore Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) led the defense with 18 digs.
Mount Union started off the first set with an 8-4 lead against Randolph-Macon. The Raiders let the Yellow Jackets back in the game with a six point run to tie the game at 9-9. R-MC would take a 13-10 lead after a 10-9 lead by Mount Union. The Yellow Jackets then went on a 5-0 run to put the score at 18-11. The Raiders could not stop the Yellow Jackets losing 25-18.
In the second set, the Raiders and the Yellow Jackets started off close with four ties and two lead changes. After a 5-5 tie, R-MC went on a 6-3 run to put the score at 11-8. Mount Union tried to catch up to R-MC with a 6-1 run with the Yellow Jackets leading 16-15 but the Raiders could not pull ahead. The Yellow Jackets took the second set 25-17.
In the third set, the Raiders took a 7-4 lead over the Yellow Jackets early in the set. With Mount Union leading by no more than two throughout the match, R-MC went on a 5-0 run to take a 16-14 lead over Mount Union. The Raiders tied the set at 19-19, but the Yellow Jackets took back the lead with a 6-0 run defeating Mount Union 25-19.
Randolph-Macon was led by Mariah Clark with 14 kills and Alexia Wolfe with 13 kills. Erin Quinn led in assists with 42.
Mount Union continues the Carnegie Mellon tournament tomorrow Saturday, September 24 competing against Carnegie Mellon at 11:00 AM and Arcadia (Pa.) at 1:00 PM
